UC Riverside's LGBT Resource Center, founded in 1993, provides support, education, and advocacy regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. The center is proud to host the CCC+LGBTQ Summit in an effort to improve the learning environment for California Community College students (who we hope are also future Highlanders!).

Assemblymember Jose Medina was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2012 and represents California's 61st Assembly District, consisting of Riverside, Moreno Valley, Perris and Mead Valley. Now in his third term, Assemblymember Medina continues his appointment as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Higher Education. As a former educator for over three decades, he recognizes the critical role higher education plays in supporting jobs and opening doors for opportunities. His experience as a teacher and advocate informs his work in the Legislature for policies that improve the quality and accessibility of higher education for all Californians.

The PUENTE Project is a national award-winning program that for the last 35 years has improved the college-going rate of tens of thousands of California's educationally underrepresented students. Its mission is to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn college degrees and return to the community as mentors and leaders to future generations. The program is interdisciplinary in approach, with writing, counseling and mentoring components.
