Lawmaker Joins Leaders in CCC System at LGBTQ Summit's Opening Plenary

Assemblymember Eloise Gomez-Reyes, author of AB 1018, will join leaders from the Chancellor's Office, Academic Senate and Student Senate on a panel for the Opening Plenary at the CCC + LGBTQ Summit on Saturday, November 11 at UC Riverside. Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Special Programs Rhonda Mohr, Foothill College Professor and Secretary of the Academic Senate Dolores M. Davison, and Student Senate President Courtney Cooper will also speak on the panel.

The Opening Plenary will discuss the current state of support and resources for LGBTQ people on Californian community college campuses. AB 1018 adds LGBTQ students to campus equity plans in the CCC system. The Bay Area Reporter recently covered the possible implications of AB 1018, as well as the CCC + LGBTQ Summit.

While online registration has closed with 375 people attending the CCC + LGBTQ Summit, it's not too late to participate. On-site registration is free and will be available on the 3rd level of the Highlander Union Building outside HUB 302 starting at 9am. Any extra box lunches will be given away to on-site registration guests, but please be prepared to purchase your own lunch if no extras are available. A Subway sandwich shop is located next to the venue.

The Summit Schedule also features 11 workshops over two sessions, caucus spaces for stakeholders on CCC campus, and a Closing Plenary on next steps.
